Is Prayer a Part of Submission to Governing Authorities?

Yes. Yes it is. When we submit to someone’s authority, we must at all cost wish for, desire, pray for the best for that person yielding authority. Not only out of godly concern for others, but out of concern for the working of God in our lives, especially concerning LIFE, we must pray for those over us in power. Lord, we pray for the soon-to-be utmost earthly authority over us, our President-Elect. Speak to Mr. Obama’s heart. Speak loudly, Lord. Shout! Thank you, with praise.

There are ministries dedicated to praying for our President-Elect, Barack Obama, that God will change his heart regarding abortion and life-issues. This is our prayer for this week, in preparation for Senator Obama’s inaugural. God, change the heart of this man whom you have placed in authority over this our nation, this people. God, please change his heart. We praise you.

The clock ticked the time right into the new year. A new year. What will God do with it? What will we let Him do with it? Well, life-issues are still at the forefront in our election process. Life-issues are not just “going away.” Early in 2008, a friend told me he had visited with a local TV reporter about something concerning abortion. He was told by the reporter that the issue was no longer of interest to TV audiences, that the law made abortion legal, and that was that.

Wrong. Life-issues still burn and burn to be resolved.

Join me in the resolution to never NEVER let these issues of LIFE burn out. Join with me in prayer to our Great God, asking Him to stoke the cinders in our hearts to a blazing commitment to created and enduring life. Thank you.

Redemption came through this Baby so loved and praised by Anna, the quite elderly prophetess. Just like all persons rejoicing over a new birth, she talked to many about the new baby, especially those seeking redemption. Our nation as a whole must seek redemption—and it will come one person at a time through belief in the Baby of Bethlehem. But also, at the other end of the spectrum of life spans, we must recognize the importance of the aged and what they speak. Our prayer is, God, that we may be faithful to hold up the importance of LIFE, from the cradle (or manger) to life’s natural end.

Joy to the World, a Baby came. At eight days old, this Baby was greeted in the Temple by the man Simeon, apparently old, and the prophetess Anna, 84 years old. According to God’s plan for salvation, from the beginning of its being fleshed out, a baby and older folks played a part. May we always, Lord, revere babies and the elderly as part of your plan, not because of what they do, but just because they are just here: you have put them here. Help us to get the word out that the Word in fleshly baby form and His elderly friends are wanted and needed by God. Merry Christmas.

I rise before dawn and cry for help;
I wait for Your words.
My eyes anticipate the night watches,
That I may meditate on Your word.

We are on a night watch even as we anticipate the annual celebration of the birth of the Saviour. The psalmist says he anticipates the night watch for purposes of meditation. Pray today that we may meditate in anticipation of the joy of Christmas, with thoughts and prayers looking forward to the births of today’s babies, especially those unborn who will be rescued from instruments of death and drugs of death. Pray for the families of those who are not rescued.

The Child, the Child, in the hay: the representation of the beauty and holiness of all conceived babies. Purest, most innocent, created.

“You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb.”

God knits us in the womb with yarn of gold. Gold can be purified; but in the womb, purity is already there in the form of a baby who knows no guile. It’s true that God chose to give the human race a choice regarding the Saviour, and it’s true that the newest newborn already needs a Saviour Who is always waiting to make Himself to known to each of us. But God’s plans (the gifts, bents, abilities) God puts within us from conception are truly of a yarn of gold.

May we pray daily, and trust Him, to open the eyes of the world to this truth: Babies are created beings, with plans of gold for their futures. Please, Lord, let this belief take over in our world.
