§ What is Pro-Life Unity?

To achieve Pro-Life Unity we will establish standards that we all agree upon, and efforts that we all regularly participate in. By working together we can challenge the culture of death and the apathy which is pervasive in our society.

2 John 1:4-6   Thought/Prayer:  In Tandem, and Then . . .  Topics:  2 at end.

This letter, written by the Apostle John is to a Christian lady and her children.
Walking in the Truth
I rejoice greatly that I have found some of your children walking in truth, even as we have been commanded by the Father. Now I beg you, dear lady, not as though I wrote to you a new commandment, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another. This is love, that we should walk according to his commandments. This is the commandment, even as you heard from the beginning, that you should walk in it.”  (WEB)  (Read this scripture and more at http://prayerpivot.com.)

Have you ever noticed two people walking side by side, and their legs and feet are in seemingly perfect tandem?  If they are of similar height, from a side view they may seem to be only one person, not two.  This isn’t a marching band here.  It’s just two people perfectly in step, or almost.

It seems that they are headed in the same direction, toward a mutual place.  They may have legs outstretched together, and their gaits may be quite similar, one to the other.  But unless they are in formal formation, such as a marching band, their togetherness will probably eventually become out of sync.

And this is what we might notice about that.  Yes, they were, for awhile, in rhythm and gait, as one.  But now they are slightly off; one perhaps steps a little farther out; the other may slack, off-gait.

This is, of course, no big deal, as we say.  Both persons are still perambulating forward and in the same direction.  All that’s missing is the rhythmic walking.

So how in the world does this fit in with ministry and such?  Well, perhaps, as Christians, we are all going toward certain destinations, and sometimes we are walking with others, as we have similar callings to ministry.  And for awhile we may seem to be in perfect tandem with outreach, prayer, or whatever it is that we pursue under the Lord’s direction.

But then we may have some differences, and our ministry “gait” is not quite as in-step.  Viewpoints may vary a bit; activities may become a little different than originally thought, and more.  So, yes, the steps vary.  But:  Consider that the individuals are still moving in the same direction, toward the target goal.  Yes.  We as Christians may vary in how we approach our callings and ministries in the Lord; but we still are heading the same direction that He has given us.

Is this not where we stay true to the Lord and to each other, all the while accepting our differences?  Our different perceptions and such?  As this scripture tells us, we are to walk in truth and “according to his commandments . . .”  This is the only place where we must be in lockstep.  Otherwise, keeping the same pace with someone is nice; but when the general direction is right-on, when we get off beat a bit, it’s probably just fine.

Lord, in the pro-life area, help us all to just walk according to Your commandments, and to rejoice in what we learn from others as we walk.

Topics:  Pray for wisdom as we walk together according to Christ’s commandments, that we may enhance one another and increase ministry through differences.
