Debate at Morehouse College: Possibly of national interest and a miracle
Consider an e-mail from Margarita Szechenyi in Georgia, perhaps potentially of national interest, and speaking of miracles. Miracles and the authority-power of Christ were spoken of in the Prayer Pivot devotion for Friday. Then I received Margarita’s e-mail that includes Dr. Alveda King’s e-mail to her, sent out Thursday night (April 23rd) after the debate at Morehouse College in Atlanta. Yesterday we prayed for Catherine Davis who was a debate participant. Did a miracle occur at Morehouse?
Dr. Alveda shared this report on the debate:
“As a first hand report from the frontlines tonight, GOD showed Himself in a very mighty way. Catherine was very focused! Her debate partne was strong in the Bible answers as well. The opposition was disarmed by Catherine and company, and the CALL team and Julie and Sonya Howard and yours truly Alveda gave our testimonies of post abortion trauma as well as the awesomeness of Jesus. 104.7 the Fish was there and will air the show several times. The room was packed with curious male and female students. The students were confused and belligerent at first, yet, by the end of the evening, they were open to discussion rather than debate. Several asked for our phone numbers, and asked us to come back sometime. A preacher asked the last question and some of the other questions from life were “my mother changed her mind after paying to abort me. Am I a nothing?” And, “would Jesus perform an abortion?” The room was packed with “pro-choice” voices, and there was a smaller, yet stronger group for life. It was truly an awesome evening. Some hearts and minds were won for life, and praise God, turned towards Jesus! Margarita is right, the Lord had prepared the way, and already won the battle. Truth came to light. There was a powerful group of pro-life leaders there, headed up by Catherine, who had strong support from GOD and His mighty warriors, including some strong prayer warriors. Please see Frontlines at the http://www.priestsforlife.org website tomorrow night for photos. We must thank GOD that Catherine is a humble servant of GOD, that she isn’t too proud to ask for prayer, and praise GOD for answering! Because I go across the country and abroad, I am so grateful to see GOD releasing so many books, tapes, videos, documentaries, internet work, etc. for life. No one person has the video, the book, etc. GOD is giving us all that we need, and we will know who and when the messenger should be. It would be an exercise in vain glory to try and say who is more pro-life than who, so let’s just suffice it to say that GOD proved HIMSELF very strong tonight, praise be to Jesus and the Holy Spirit. For those who did attend, I’m glad to have seen you there. For those who did not physically attend, we missed you, and I take comfort in believing that you were serving GOD wherever you were tonite. Amen. Peace and Love! Alveda”
Why would this debate last night at a small college in Atlanta be of national interest? Considerations:
For one, Morehouse (a college of over 140 years) is for African American men to be educated to leadership. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., graduated from Morehouse in 1948.
And then, national interest may apply here because of the possibility of African-American leadership entertaining new concepts about the effects of abortion on the African-American population. Dr. King’s niece, Alveda King and two other ladies gave testimonies regarding post-abortion trauma, adding a personal touch to the education for all in attendance.
According to Alveda, the evening started with debate and ended with discussion. What more perfect environment in which to share life issues than the place where a martyr for freedom, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., graduated, and where we find located the Martin Luther King, Jr., International Chapel/Gloster Hall? According to the Morehouse official website,
“The Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel seeks to develop, promote and accomplish clergy, laity, and youth awakening through reconciliation, non-violence, science, spirituality and the building of global ‘communities of hope’.”
Here is hope: the possibility of educated African American young men becoming more knowledgeable about the battle for the culture of life in our nation.
As the evening went on, as Dr. Alveda describes, God worked, and hearts were changed. Even for the hearts not changed, there have been implanted seeds for future cultivation. How fitting that she should be there in the place where her Uncle Martin Luther also cultivated vibrant seeds for change.
Our prayer must be that the individuals at the debate took home with them a new vision for LIFE. When hearts change, and change in actions may be commencing, is not that a miracle of possibly great proportion, crafted by the Lord whose authority is over all? Amen.
