Ephesians 5:15-17(Pt. 2) Thought/Prayer: Moms’ Best Use of the Time? Topics: 2 at end.
“Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” ESV Scripture quotations are from the Holy Bible, English Standard Version, copyright © 2001 by Crossway Bibles, a division of Good News Publishers. “The best use of the time . . . “ What can this mean for stay-at-home moms? (Or maybe I should say working-exhausted-and-frustrated-with-sometimes-teeny-immediate-rewards moms.) How in the world can such a mom feel that she is making the best use of any time (hers or God’s) when there seems to be no chunk of time ever available when cleaning up after toddlers and attempting to corral a willful child daily . . . daily . . . daily?
One answer: God knows. God knows every temper tantrum (on the part of children and hopefully not on the part of mom); every exhausted sinking into a recliner for two minutes (max); every nerve-firing jolting crash from the other room. Yes, He knows. How does he know?
Our Lord God made children. He made them this way. It’s part of the plan for them – they must develop their “selves.” And their “selves” will inevitably cause work for, or go against, an adult’s self.
So for mothers who stay home and care for their children daily, sometimes it may help to think of another Bible verse. Psalm 31:15a: “My times are in thy hand . . .” (DARBY) When trying to make the best of the time, how helpful to know that God’s hands hold our lives—the time in our lives. Since we know he is omnipresent, moms with little people can rest assured that He knows about every moment of the day and about every challenging event (and kid-of-the-day). Moms who stay home instead of working feel that they are giving of their best to their children. Mothers, know that God is with you all the way, all the time.
Lord, help us to pray for mothers who choose the tough job of being at home with their offspring. They do a great work, pro-life in nature, as their children were allowed to exist on Earth. We pray for their stamina and peace.
Topics: Pray for all the stay-at-home moms you know, for their fortitude and patience.
