Ephesians 6:11-17 (Pt. 2) Thought/Prayer: Armored Like Those Trucks. Topics: 2 at end.
“Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. I see armored cars around our town, compact, leaden-looking, steely boxes on wheels. Just the sight of one brings thoughts of heavy safety, security, and compacted-yet-speedy responsibility. These cars haul around money—apparently a lot of money – and valuables such as gems or maybe even works of art. The armor is what folks pay money for to protect valuable belongings.
Some of the belongings are not even owned by the people who hire these trucks to carry around their stuff. A business or bank pays such a truck company to take around an important payload for their customers. It’s part of keeping customers’ assets under protection.
In the Christian walk, we receive no money for protecting what is valuable and important in the walk of faith. But we do receive “payment” of other types: the satisfaction of allowing our Lord to work through us; the confidence we receive from carrying out His plans for us; the fellowship of others for whom we keep out a watchful eye of protection. These are the intangible payments reaped from a life lived seeking the Lord.
Lord, help us to always remember that we are caretakers of what you have given us in our walks of service. We are charged with responsibility to keep safe what you and others entrust to us. Help us to keep safety and security in mind as we serve you to save the most entrusted entity on earth: newborn babies.
