Isaiah 41:14-16 (Pt. 4) Thought/Prayer: Thresh Us. Topics: 2 at end.
“Fear not, thou worm Jacob, and ye men of Israel; I will help thee, saith the LORD, and thy redeemer, the Holy One of Israel. Behold, I will make thee a new sharp threshing instrument having teeth: thou shalt thresh the mountains, and beat them small, and shalt make the hills as chaff. Thou shalt fan them, and the wind shall carry them away, and the whirlwind shall scatter them: and thou shalt rejoice in the LORD, and shalt glory in the Holy One of Israel.” KJV http://www.bible.com (Read this scripture and more at http://prayerpivot.com)
We see that God will thresh the enemy, mountains, hills, whatever needs to be cut off and scattered to the wind like chaff at harvest time. We can pray for this cutting-off, this cutting-down, in our lives as we approach resistance from the enemies of God and his righteousness. We can praise him as we see formidable mountains just disappear into the wind.
But there is another type of threshing that goes on, one we need: the threshing of our hearts. Within ourselves and our heart attitudes, there is always much room for God’s scythe of holiness to swing back and forth, cutting away the weeds and the stubborn stalks of wrong attitudes. He knows every nuance of sin in our lives. We can’t hide it from him, and He wants to get in there and cut away.
The mountains within us may be mountains of known sin; mountains of resistance to His leading; mountains of doubt; mountains of fear. There seems to be no limit to the types and numbers of mountains we face. We even allow foothills of resistance to become mountains in our lives.
But if we are to serve at our greatest, we must recognize these impediments to our spiritual progress and service for what they are. And we must ask God to help us purge our hearts to rid them of. Our hearts are fertile ground for weeds and dried-up crops to take over. Only our Lord, who knows us all—and all of our resistances—can take down these obstacles to our Christian growth and service.
Lord, You thresh our hearts. Give us a good threshing. We ask that you do this as we work through our attitudes, habits, actions and more. Help us to be open to your hand doing away with all that impedes our progress in our growth and service. Help us to let you get all of this out of the way so that we can serve as pro-lifers in the most effective ways of all.
