§ What is Pro-Life Unity?

To achieve Pro-Life Unity we will establish standards that we all agree upon, and efforts that we all regularly participate in. By working together we can challenge the culture of death and the apathy which is pervasive in our society.

Jeremiah 17:7 – 8 (Pt. 2)  Thought/Prayer:Ninety-Nine.  Topics:  2 at end.

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD
And whose trust is the LORD.  For he will be like a tree planted by the water,
That extends its roots by a stream And will not fear when the heat comes; But its leaves will be green, And it will not be anxious in a year of drought
Nor cease to yield fruit.”  (NASB®) http://www.lockman.orghttp://www.bible.com  (Read this scripture and more at http://prayerpivot.com).

My person in the senior care center, my mother-in-law, turned 99 today.  We’re egging her on to the century mark.  Pretty incredible.  Things get perspective:  Now when people tell me about really old people (who are in their 80’s) – not so old!

She’s the “green” person who, although she cannot do many basic functions in life, is very green.  Her roots have been planted in the eternal stream, the spring that will never ever go dry.  Speaking of waters running, a brother asked her one time why she never learned to swim in the hometown river.  Well, she was “playin’ baptizin’”!  So we see that her roots were well secured in the Lord’s stream in childhood.

Her life has held some days of heat I’m sure, but we really don’t notice;  often it’s because is concerned about someone else.  She has not lived a life of fear.  Rather, she’s busy overcoming and keeping green leaves in sprout.  She has not lived an anxious life; rather, she “works it off” in hard times and situations.  She continues looking out through the window of her life and is accepting of the arid times.  According to her, she “. . . just keeps a’ pluggin’.”  In a way, acceptance of her situation is part of the fruit she bears.  Peaches and pears of acceptance are her gifts to us who care about her and who take care of her.  It is a blessing to us that by living pretty much in the moment, she for the most part doesn’t over-hash the past or fret the future.  Thank you, Mom, for that.

Does a sense of humor indicate youthfulness?  I think so.  She laughs and laughs when teased and can catch onto some simple jokes.  These chuckles are good for the souls of others.  Her roots still find the moisture of humor.

Lord, today, I pray with others who are heavily involved with elder relatives or friends, that we appreciate more today than yesterday, these babes of yours; unable to care for themselves, but who are such examples of fortitude, youthfulness and greenness.  May we see them as a being blessings and work toward retaining their dignity, no matter what, and no matter how tired we may become in serving them.

Topics:  Pray for caretakers of the elderly to have strength for each day and that they may learn of all resources available to help with the care and the strain that can come with it.  Pray for more community services to be available to help.
