Luke 9:57,58 Thought/Prayer: A Place to Lay A Head. Topics: 2 at end.
“And it came to pass as they went in the way, one said to him, I will follow thee wheresoever thou goest, Lord. And Jesus said to him, The foxes have holes and the birds of the heaven roosting-places, but the Son of man has not where he may lay his head?” DARBY http://www.bible.com (Read this scripture and more at http://prayerpivot.com)
Why does Jesus answer this man in this manner? Here, the fellow it saying that he will go with Jesus: anywhere. And then Jesus says that He Himself will not even have a pillow upon which to rest or sleep. What? Could this mean that Christ did not have a home? No, not really. We know from the Bible tells us that as a child, he was from Nazareth. Then later he lived in Capernaum.
But here, simply, it would appear that Christ is just telling the man that to follow him may mean that his life will be here-and-there unsettled, restless. To follow him would not mean a simple life of house and home, of weekday work and then weekend recreation. No, to follow Him would mean much more.
But could we stretch a bit here and compare his statement about not having a place to lay his head, to LIFE issues? We can try.
The preborn do not need a place to rest; they are perfectly content in Mother’s warm liquid in the womb. And newborns do not usually use pillows for various reasons. But children do. They love pillows, especially favorite ones with maybe a neat design or even their own photo on one.
But some families may be afraid that an unexpected baby will truly not have a place to sleep. Finances are so tight; mom and dad don’t think they have time for a new little person in the home; babies cause ongoing expenses, many undetermined. They’re expensive as they grow up! The thought of doing away with the child seems such a simple solution.
We must pray for families such as this. They need help, and through prayer and service, they can accept the new one into their home beautifully. This new individual will indeed have a place to call home, a place to lay a head, and will enjoy rest and sleep. But those of us who are pro-lifers must be willing to be available to assist, to not ignore needs, to provide material things when necessary. Locate a church that ministers to overwhelmed families with a newborn. Offer to assist, however.
Lord, help us to be willing to provide, for others, when we can. Open our hearts toward those who need help; open our pocketbooks when needed. Help us not to look the other way.
Topics: Pray for awareness of how to help those struggling with great family issues, including those with newborns or the overwhelming knowledge that one is on the way.
