§ What is Pro-Life Unity?

To achieve Pro-Life Unity we will establish standards that we all agree upon, and efforts that we all regularly participate in. By working together we can challenge the culture of death and the apathy which is pervasive in our society.

Matthew 23:37   Thought/Prayer:  Halloween Protection.  Topics:  2 at end.

Jesus speaks of Jerusalem:  “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!”  KJV   http://www.bible.com  (Read this scripture and more at http://prayerpivot.com)

When Halloween comes around, it is wonderful to sit on our front porch and survey several streets in our neighborhood at one glance.  It’s the great way our house faces – we can see a winding street going down for several blocks and houses on several corners.

On Halloween we see multitudes (yes, multitudes it seems, in our young neighborhood) of princesses, warriors, NFL and NCAA football players, skeletons, ghouls, and more, all looking for a handout – a safe one – of some goodies.  The darker it becomes, the more glowing lights we see walking about, attached to a costumed someone.

But among the children are the larger shapes of parents.  All of these festive kids are being supervised by their parents.  Some parents pull wagons full of kids or drive decorated golf carts loaded with a costumed bunch.  The parents know how much work it is to get these children into their costumes and ready to go.  But this does get done.  And parents are probably tired from a long day’s work.  But they still get out and go.  Tired or not, the children on Halloween night are at the top of the priority list.  It’s heartwarming to see the little family units navigating together to the next neighbor’s house.

It’s God’s plan.  Parents are supposed to gather their children and be with them for fun such as this.  It’s fun – but as we know, it’s also protective.  To send young children out to trick or treating alone would bring on disaster.  The parents in the background waiting for kids on someone’s porch are just part of the plan.  Protection while having fun – it’s a really great combo!

Jesus refers to Jerusalem as a parent does to children.  He wanted to gather the citizens under his wing as a mother hen does her chicks.  And Jesus Christ is always “in the background” protecting us all as we have fun or just go about an ordinary day.  He’s there for each and every one of His children:  us.  He’s there for every surprisingly-conceived child, in the background as they grow up.  He wants to gather these children into His arms too.

Lord, thank you for creating us to live in families and for giving parents the responsibility to be there for children, to gather them protectively under parental wings.  Please be with parents who didn’t plan for certain children and help them to love them and protect them just as much as children who were planned.

Topics:  Pray for parental wisdom around the globe in bringing up children and protecting them.
