To achieve Pro-Life Unity we will establish standards that we all agree upon, and efforts that we all regularly participate in. By working together we can challenge the culture of death and the apathy which is pervasive in our society.

Nehemiah 3:1-5; Nehemiah 3:6-12 (Pt. 3) Thought/Prayer: Places and Faces. Topics: 2 at end.
The Builders of the Walls
“Then Eliashib the high priest rose up with his brothers the priests, and they built the sheep gate; they sanctified it, and set up the doors of it; even to the tower of Meah they sanctified it, to the tower of Hananeel. And next to him built the men of Jericho. And next to them built Zaccur the son of Imri.
But the fish gate did the sons of Hassenaah build, who also laid the beams thereof, and set up the doors thereof, the locks thereof, and the bars thereof. And next to them repaired Meremoth the son of Urijah, the son of Koz. And next to them repaired Meshullam the son of Berechiah, the son of Meshezabeel. And next to them repaired Zadok the son of Baana. and next to them the Tekoites repaired; but their nobles put not their necks to the work of their LORD.â€
“Moreover the old gate repaired Jehoiada the son of Paseah, and Meshullam the son of Besodeiah; they laid the beams thereof, and set up the doors thereof, and the locks thereof, and the bars thereof. And next to them repaired Melatiah the Gibeonite, and Jadon the Meronothite, the men of Gibeon, and of Mizpah, to the throne of the governor on this side the river. Next to him repaired Uzziel the son of Harhaiah, of the goldsmiths. Next to him also repaired Hananiah the son of one of the apothecaries, and they fortified Jerusalem to the broad wall. And next to them repaired Rephaiah the son of Hur, the ruler of the half part of Jerusalem. And next to them repaired Jedaiah the son of Harumaph, even over against his house. And next to him repaired Hattush the son of Hashabniah. Malchijah the son of Harim, and Hashub the son of Pahathmoab, repaired the other piece, and the tower of the furnaces. And next to him repaired Shallum the son of Halohesh, the ruler of the half part of Jerusalem, he and his daughters.†(AKJV) Read this scripture and more at http://prayerpivot.com
There were some perhaps unlikely men helping to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem in Nehemiah’s time. We can understand those named who were from the region around Jerusalem. There were the Tekoites from Takoah, a small town near Jerusalem. There were Meronothites, from Meronoth, a region in Galilee. The men of Mizpah came from a city near Jerusalem.
Melatiah the Gibeonite was from a city originally in Canaan.
And “the men of Jericho Jericho was in Canaan. The Canaanites were driven out by Israel. But that was perhaps 1500 years before the walls were rebuilt. Maybe time eases history.
But Nehemiah makes a point to tell us all of these men’s residences. They came from different places, obviously, and probably had varying experiences in life. But this did not seem to bother them. They all were convicted to help refortify Jerusalem, so work together they did. They came from different places and had different faces perhaps; but their hearts were in the same place: For God’s city.
Should we not do the same? Someone’s background is different from ours? Maybe they have different viewpoints on how things should be done? Well, let it be. Just get the shoulder to the grindstone and go to work.
It may sound simplistic, with all of the variety in our world today. But if we have one main objective, such as saving babies from abortion and families from much grief over it, we will be willing to work with many around us, from many different places.
Lord, help us to recognize the underlying desire to serve You in the LIFE area; help us to desire pro-life unity.
Topics: Pray for willingness to serve alongside those from many different viewpoints and backgrounds, for LIFE’s sake.
