Philippians 3:8 (Pt. 2) Thought/Prayer: Excellency. Topics: 2 at end.

Do we ever really realize how excellent is our Lord? Well, just to think of it, probably we do not. God made us human and made us so we do not have unlimited ability to understand all the mysteries of Christ (Col. 1:27, “To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:” KJV).
But in another way, we do have the ability to appreciate Christ’s excellency: through knowing Him. The more we draw close to Christ, the more we understand about Him, and the more we can see his perfection. For some of us, perhaps it is his perfection in which we see his great excellence the most. Being perfect would, of course, bring excellency. The One who is perfect can be no better in excellency!
But how do we appropriate this quality into our lives? There are probably many ways, but worship has to figure in. If we worship Christ, truly worship Him, He will reveal Himself to us in all the ways he chooses (or in all the ways we individually need). When we think of Him and think on His qualities; when we read our Bible with awe in mind; when we pray to draw closer; He will reveal Himself. Yes, these are not “practical” ways to find his excellence; but maybe worship is a beginning point. If we get to know Him through our worship, then His character will come through to us more; and we will have a better basis for doing His will day in, day out.
Lord, thank you for being the Only excellent one. And thank you that You choose to make this known to us, however it is in a mystery to us humans. Help us to want to know you better and better; then we will be able to serve better and better, because of the knowledge of Your excellence.
