What a wonderful thing for which to wait: The Lord’s lovingkindness. Most of us get very tired of waiting, especially if there is something good around the corner. We especially hate waiting at stoplights, and we hate waiting in line for “fast food” which quickly (slowly) becomes seemingly ancient. Never mind that we had neither to grow the lettuce on our sandwich nor wash it, store it, or toss it on our burger. We just get impatient over the ancient.
But even though a meal at the end of a wait is a reward for our wait, it is a small trophy compared to waiting for our reward from our God. His rewards cannot even be measured by human standards. His rewards are beyond earthly and are perfectly planned, formed and delivered to us – on a platter of gold, not a trash-can paper.
We know something of his loving kindness as he works in our lives. We thank Him for our food and clothing and shelter. We love Him for all of this. But his lovingkindness could be greater than all. He loves us in a kindly fashion – even favoring us. We seek His favor because we want to please Him. And right here we see that his favor is ours because we wait for his lovingkindness.
Lord, help us to not forget your favor toward us. Help us to apply this beautiful attitude of favor to those for whom we work to bring LIFE to the earth.
