Psalm 34:1-4 Thought/Prayer: Pray Fear Away. Topics: 2 at end.
“I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad. O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together. I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.” KJV http://www.bible.com (Read this scripture and more at http://prayerpivot.com).
Recently someone mentioned that praise is one way to combat fear. The writer of this Psalm, David, tells us bless God and praise Him continually. Tell Him how wonderful and great He is over and over and over without stopping. Boast in him, it says.
So why so much about praising and boasting in God – well, here it’s because the LORD “delivered me from all my fears.” What? David, God’s anointed king, had fears? It’s true that he did, and he was not above admitting it in his Psalms of praise. He honestly confesses that he would become afraid. This happened when He could not see past circumstances to God’s view of things.
We all become afraid – whether it be in a booming thunderstorm rife with lightning “way too close,” or in a job interview fearing failure, or in a situation of facing up to the truth and making confession to someone, not knowing what the reaction will be. Praising God in such situations takes our eyes off of the circumstances of fear and puts us back on the positive—plus, it “takes us back” to The Positive: God. Nothing or anyone is more positive than our God.
Lord, today, help us to turn our moments of trembling into positive praise for You. We want to lift up our compliments about you, to You. We want to tell you over and over how wonderful you are. Help us to do this and in this way, to dispel fear. You are Positive. Fear is negative. Help us do away with it; help us praise.
Topics: Pray for a positive outlook and praises to God to banish our fears as we serve him for LIFE.
