Psalm 92:13-15. The Generations/Music Connection. Topics: 2 at end.
““Those that are planted in the house of Jehovah shall flourish in the courts of our God: They are still vigorous in old age, they are full of sap and green; To shew that Jehovah is upright: [he is] my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.” DARBY http://www.bible.com (Read this scripture and more at http://prayerpivot.com)
How much older folks can be missed! Having returning from vacation, I missed one of our ladies in the retirement home. Upon inquiring, I learned that she had passed away. I feel a sense of loss.
Although I didn’t know her well, she was a gracious person and loved the music selections I played on the piano. There was one particular song she said she could listen to every week – and I’ll always think of Harriet when I play it. One could hardly say that Harriet was “vigorous,” at least physically, because she had physical challenges. But her mind was at work, and she contributed to any conversation with intelligence and insight. And, to one such as I who loves music, anyone who appreciates that art-form has vigor.
Although I knew her just briefly, her biography in the paper highlighted her accomplishments in life and honors received. They were many. She had a servant heart and helped many. It seems meaningful to me that, although I didn’t know of her array of involvements, we still could connect on that one level: music, that universal language, especially when lacking lyrics, such as with piano-played songs. It’s just Godly, I think, when there is a connection between generations, a mutual respect, not based on accomplishments but on just something “God-givenly human” about us that enjoys sharing a liking for a simple thing . . . a tune. God sees us this way. He doesn’t count our accomplishments to declare us worthy of His love. He just loves us.
Now, when I play that Mozart piece, I will be dedicating it in my heart to Harriet. And, Lord, help us to realize that all the connections we make with others are really brought about by you. You made us that way. Help us to connect with pro-life people especially, with meaning through you. Thank you for creating the connections that bring us together, not apart, and we ask that each created preborn child will be able to connect however you have planned, whether through service or a pretty melody. And may our elders live to make new connections even in the 8th or 9th decades.
Topics: Pray for connections between pro-life workers and the women who are contemplating abortion, even if the relationship begins with something as simple as a simple prayer or a gift of a baby blanket.
