§ What is Pro-Life Unity?

To achieve Pro-Life Unity we will establish standards that we all agree upon, and efforts that we all regularly participate in. By working together we can challenge the culture of death and the apathy which is pervasive in our society.

Zechariah 4:1 – 7 Thought/Prayer:  Not Might Nor Power.  Topics:  2 at end.

“And the angel that talked with me came again, and waked me, as a man that is wakened out of his sleep. And said to me, What see you? And I said, I have looked, and behold a candlestick all of gold, with a bowl on the top of it, and his seven lamps thereon, and seven pipes to the seven lamps, which are on the top thereof: And two olive trees by it, one on the right side of the bowl, and the other on the left side thereof.

So I answered and spoke to the angel that talked with me, saying, What are these, my lord?  Then the angel that talked with me answered and said to me, Know you not what these be? And I said, No, my lord.

Then he answered and spoke to me, saying, This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, said the LORD of hosts. Who are you, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain: and he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace to it.”  AKJV (Read this scripture and more at http://prayerpivot.com.)

In this vision of Zechariah the prophet’s, we see the statement of God for Zerubbabel, “Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, . . .” said the LORD of hosts.  And certainly the Spirit of the Lord reigned over Zerubbabel’s future work in leading the first captives from Babylonia back to Jerusalem and beginning the laying of the foundation of the second Temple.  What an important role Zerubbabel played in the life of the Israelites!

But what an interesting statement from God, one from which we all can take learning.  In this statement, God lets it be known that He is the one Who makes things happen:  through His Spirit.  In this particular scripture, God downplays power and might (although in many other passages His power and might do accomplish much).  But in this one, He is wanting to make known that it is He Who is doing the “accomplishment,” not men or women.  And it is not even through power and might, which are usually equated with success.  No, it’s through His Spirit – his Spirit which is, of course, the ultimate in might and power.

In the creation of everything it was the Spirit that was moving over the waters.  Now that is power!  To create from nothing . . . EVERYTHING!  But here in this passage, what could be meant?  Creation has already happened, obviously . . . so how does God use His Spirit here, way back in Babylonian times?

We’re told that a mountain will become a plain.  Flattened.  Or gone.  No more mountain.  No mountain is identified, but we know that Zerubbabel had a mountain of a task before him to get the captives back to Jerusalem and to start on a new Temple.

We have mountains to flatten, all of us.  Figuratively we all must overcome huge obstacles in life, one way or the other, whether physically, emotionally, mentally, socially, relationally and more.  Sometimes we overcome something by force, even by way of armed forces.  But at other times we rely in the Spirit’s directing us to overcome.  Often his can happen in our thinking . . . and through our hearts as God speaks to us.

Lord, thank you that not every obstacle has to be taken by storm.  Thank you that there are skills within that strong, strong Spirit of Yours to take care of any storm – and often without a blow.  Help us to let others know this.  Help us to share with struggling souls how You have shown Your power in our lives.  We ask Your Spirit to help those trying to decide issues of life or death with the power within You.

Topics:  Pray for the ability to explain to others how God’s Spirit works in the lives of humans, powerfully . . . and yet often quietly.
