Help for Moms in Crisis Pregnancy - Thinking Outside the Box

A major component of Pro Life Unity is bringing together members of our communities who desire to help Moms in crisis pregnancy, thus creating a large network of support for these Moms. If we think outside the box, we can begin to see endless opportunities for people of all walks of life and professions to join in this critical effort. I was very excited to hear recently about one such lady who passionately desires to use her gifts and profession to help Moms in crisis pregnancy. I asked her to share her story in her own words:

“My name is Jackie Taylor. For the past two years I have been working in the Real Estate industry.. I live in Woodstock, GA and have a two year old daughter named Jordan. In fact, Jordan is the reason I chose this career field. It enables me to spend a lot more time at home with her. My daughter is the reason behind most of my decision making these days as she is the most important part of my life!

A little over three years ago, I lost my closest friend, Erin Wanha. We were so close that when I found out I was pregnant with a girl, I knew immediately that her middle name would be Erin.
Erin had such a love for children and wanted them so badly in her own future.  I know that any pro-life organization would be close to her heart. It is for that reason that I feel a certain pride in saying that I wish to be part! I want to help! I have been very blessed in my life and I think it only fair that I return the favor.

What I am offering to do is, for every client I am able to help sell or buy their home, I will donate 10% of my commission to the charity or church of their choice! My objective is simple, helping others!  Whether you are looking for your first home, a rental home, land, or you want to sell your home and find something new, give me a call and lets discuss your needs—and then we’ll discuss what good cause is closest to your heart!

Also, I will help find housing for expectant mothers who need it. I was once in an awful situation, similar to what these young mothers are going through, and I like to think that things would have been different if help were provided. I would be able to find rental properties, lease purchase properties and even cheap starter homes. I also have several mortgage people that I work with that could help these mothers reestablish or build their credit. Understand that most rental properties do require some sort of down payment, so mothers starting with nothing may need more assistance than what I can provide. If you come across someone looking for housing, give me a call and chances are I can help.”

Jackie can be reached at: 404-934-4088

Crisis Pregnancy Centers and charitable groups like St.. Vincent de Paul can provide the down payment on a rental, but expertise and assistance provided by professionals like Jackie is of the utmost value in expanding our ability to offer long-term help to the Moms.

New Stanek WND column, “4th annual Abortionist of the Year award”

WND%20logo.gif

The National Day of Appreciation for Abortion Providers is just around the corner - March 10 - but it appears I'm the only one celebrating this year.

Not one national abortion website is showcasing this exciting holiday. Popularity may be dwindling because it is so difficult to show appreciation to abortionists. Heroin and child porn are two of those hard to find gifts.

Despite the abortion industry's diss, I will do my part to honor these special shop choppers with my 4th annual Abortionist of the Year award.

This year's gang is exceptional. I am reminded of the 1967 Academy Awards, when The Graduate, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?, Cool Hand Luke, Dr. Dolittle, In Cold Blood, In the Heat of the Night, Camelot and Bonnie & Clyde all competed for Oscars. How do you choose?

Of course, abortionists would pick In Cold Blood, but I digress. Here are the nominees, in alpha order to be fair...

Is Georgia’s new bill pro-life?

Does an ill-gotten crumb satisfy a starving man?

I’m starving. Starving for leadership that demands the right to life for all of us. Starving for leadership that remains inflexible. Starving for leadership that will not stoop to let the end justify the means.

Let me be less cryptic. Before all of you Georgians stands HB 1358. A bill by Rep. Martin Scott, but sponsored by Rep. James Mills. This bill is entitled “The Human Embryo Protection Act” and was submitted on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008. This bill protects some embryos, a very small group in fact, the ones being created for parents who can’t conceive on their own, while affirming that embryos in the uterus of a woman should be denied personhood.

Line 12 of HB1358: “An in vitro human embryo exists as a legal person until such time as the in vitro human embryo is implanted in a human uterus.” Allow me to translate into southern. As long as the little human is in a dish in the lab, it is granted personhood. Once the little human is inside mama, it’s personhood is removed.

It would be one thing to assert the rights of humans in the lab of fertilization clinics without asserting that there are no rights for embryos in the womb. But this bill does not even wait to be gutted in committee—it guts itself.

So, is a bill that affirms the denial of personhood to developing humans in the womb pro-life? That is the question.

New Stanek WND column, “The slaughterhouse rules”

WND%20logo.gif

Well, I just watched an undercover video filmed by the Humane Society at a California beef plant where cows were supposedly tortured and killed, and I must say I'm disgusted.

Prime-time news shows aired clips of this video last week with no warning of its graphic nature. I'm glad my 7-year-old grandson wasn't around, or I might have had to explain where hamburger comes from.

What's wrong with these Humane Society people? Don't they have better things to do with their time? Perhaps they could alleviate this problem, if there really is a problem, by pasturing their own cow herds if they really cared.

Anyway, I'm quite sure this video is a fake.

And even if not, I don't believe cows feel pain when being plowed by forklifts. No one can prove to me that they do. Flinching when prodded with pokers is a visceral response. Struggling when dragged by cow hooks is a primal reaction, certainly not related to pain. Cows can't talk; therefore cows can't feel pain. That's just a fact....

Are We Against Abortifacient Birth Control?

One thing that struck me in the hearings for HR 536 was the testimony of the doctor panel. They were in unanimous agreement that to declare life begins at conception would outlaw the patch, ring, birth control pills and the IUD because all of these methods are abortifacients. In other words, these birth control measures will kill embryos. Anyone who imagined that Christians aren’t killing off their own offspring with abortive measures should think long and hard about birth control pills. Doctors will not admit to patients that they are abortifacients, but in testimony before legislators, there was unanimous agreement.

Personally, the pastor who performed our marriage ceremony recommended that I use birth control pills for at least the first year of marriage. He, of course, had no idea that birth control pills are abortifacients, but this ignorance is rampant in the church and dangerous. We need to look at the people and pharmaceutical companies who have developed chemical means of inhibiting births. In our country, it flowed out of the American Eugenics Society and American Birth Control Society. Margaret Sanger was involved in both, and then moved on to found Planned Parenthood.

There are safe, natural ways to space children, but a medical community that does not value human life at the earliest stage is not going to explore, develop or recommend those methods.

If you are in support of HR 536 and HB 1, and you or your spouse are using IUD, birth control pills or the patch, you must re-examine your world view in theory and in practice. We have absorbed a lie from people who wish to exterminate Jews, Christians and African-Americans, and have embraced abortifacients as an acceptable method of family planning. We have diluted the value of embryos and humans at the earliest stages of development.

I have never heard of an Ob-Gyn who admitted that birth control pills and the patch are an abortifacients. But on a medical panel of 6 doctors who did not converse prior to the hearing, nor did they know each other, they unanimously testified that all these methods would be outlawed under the Human Life Amendment because they kill embryos.

That is today’s uncomfortable truth.

Keep Your Eye on the Ball

I’m not really much of a sports kind of gal. I’m a nerd at heart, and that goes for my entire family. We go to orchestra practice not soccer practice. But I do know this much. If you don’t keep your eye on the ball, you aren’t going to win.

The pro-life community seems to spend an appalling amount of time not ending abortion. We set up classes on sidewalk counseling, focus on parental notification, waiting periods, informed consent, embryos outside the womb, or ultrasound availability. Then we can’t figure out why it is taking us 35+ years to end abortion.

Glenn Richardson made a telling statement at the Cobb GOP luncheon a couple weeks ago. He said, “We’ve given the pro-life community the Ultrasound bill and the Woman’s Right to Know bill. What more do they want?”

When I was in DC last month, I was complaining that President Bush has not really done much to END abortion and gives more money to Planned Parenthood in the budget than any President previous. A well established leader looked at me incredulously and said, “Jenny, he’s done everything we’ve asked for.” My face turned to disgust and I said, “Then we aren’t asking for enough.”

We must end abortion now. Today. Immediately. That is the ball, that is the whole point of the fundraising, the networking, the organization building, and the conferences. But it is the one thing many organizations seem to have trouble discussing or participating in. When I go into pro-life meetings or conferences I always say, ” I want to end abortion this year. That is my goal.” Many people look at me like I have a third eye.

I urge all of you, keep your eye on the ball. We must end abortion this year. It is unacceptable that 40,000 children are being slaughtered in Atlanta this year. Public pressure, community indignation, elections coming up this summer are all powerful tools to stop the violence against our people. You can bring the blood shed to an end. Get your family, neighbors and church involved. Let’s finally have victory that’s By the people, Of the people, For the people, and For the babies!

Committee Hearings for Life in Retrospect

Let’s look back at the events this week in the committee hearings for two important pieces of pro-life legislation and glean what can be learned. The Judiciary Sub-committee had three members who claim to be pro-life. These three did in fact vote against tabling the bill, but I think it is important to reflect on their behavior in the committee hearings, and the actions of the other legislators who have signed onto HR 536 and HB1.

We have reached the very unfortunate place of having elected a pro-life majority in our House and Senate, yet there are only a handful of legislators who truly value life and take their responsibility to protect life seriously. This is an election year. Are we going to vote for people who received the pro-life stamp, or are we going to vote for people who aggressively stand against the slaughter of innocent children?

The three legislators who voted not to table HR 536 were Roger Lane (District 167), Rich Golick(District 34), and Barry Fleming (District 117). For seven hours we all sat in the same room and listened to testimony, mostly against protecting innocent life. If you or I had been able to ask questions, would we not have grilled the pro-abort doctors and lawyers with questions pointing out their complete disregard for life, and their biased philosophies and inconsistencies? As I reflect on the questions offered by these three gentlemen, first I cannot recall any questions from Roger Lane. I’m not even sure what he looks like. Immediately following the vote I stopped Rich Golick and asked who the vote on the other side of the room against tabling had come from. He assumed it was Roger Lane, but wasn’t sure, and recommended I ask Roger Lane to confirm.

This is rather alarming. Here you have a panel taking up the consideration of two bills to protect all innocent life, and it is clear the pro-life members have not been in consultation with one another nor were they certain ahead of time how the others would vote. I think basic strategizing is something we should all be able to expect from our legislators.

Now let’s reflect on Rich and Barry. On day two of the hearings their few questions were limited to a strange monomaniacal preoccupation with how the amendment should read on the ballot. Maybe you should read that again to let it sink in. In the face of testimony ripping apart a respect life philosophy, all they could bring up was the way the amendment would read on the ballot. Well, Rich did also make a point to express his anger at being lectured by the pro-abort legal panel on his duty to his oath. The only time Barry shook off his preoccupation with the ballot was when a crisis pregnancy director from Augusta stood and gave testimony concerning a 15 year old forced to have an abortion by the Augusta Planned Parenthood at 20 weeks gestation. This event occurred recently, and Barry was very interested in this. He asked the woman if she had contacted anyone in regard to this atrocity. When she said that she had not, and had no idea whom she should contact, Barry recommended that she contact the Department of Human Resources.

Now far be it from me to imagine that Barry is anything but new to the political arena and has absolutely no idea that DHR (Department of Human Resources) is utterly corrupt and unwilling to investigate even the most shocking reports of cruelty and lawlessness in the abortion facilities of Georgia. It is highly probable that although Barry is pro-life, he knew nothing of DHR’s complete refusal to investigate the infanticide case at Atlanta Surgi-Center in July 2006, in which a handful of legislators tried to intervene by writing letters to the Governor demanding justice. Furthermore, we should all assume that Barry has no idea that the head of Licensing and Regulation within DHR is very pro-abort, the majority of abortion clinics in Georgia operate without ambulatory surgical licenses, and that there are a number of cases of raped women and sexually abused girls forced into abortion clinics to get rid of the evidence every year. I’ve been involved in the pro-life world for 8 months, and the last place I would send anyone for justice would be DHR.

I would also be remiss if I did not point out that Barry Fleming is campaigning against Paul Broun for his congressional seat this summer. Paul Broun is avidly pro-life and has introduced a Human Life Amendment into Congress. It would be tragic for Georgia to replace a man who genuinely values life with a man who genuinely values his own political ambitions. Jerry Keen is in fact helping Barry’s run for office by slandering Paul Broun in his district, and falsely characterizing Broun’s votes in Congress. I’m just saying we should pause and reflect on that for a moment.

Many legislators signed onto HR 536. They were guaranteed a pro-life stamp of approval for this election year if they did so. However, if these legislators had taken innocent life seriously, and had been truly determined to see HR 536 come to the House floor for a vote, would it have died in committee 4 votes against 3 votes?

Before you get out the Thank you notes, pause and reflect on the fact that over 120 “prolife” Representatives voted in favor of the ultrasound bill last year. Where were these 120 plus legislators this year? When they really had the opportunity to protect innocent life, they were no where to be seen.

Final Hearing in Atlanta for HR 536 and HB1

I want to encourage all of our prolifers out there that this has been a successful pro-life run for us. HR 536 was tabled following the hearing yesterday, which means that it is dead. HB1 was passed to the main Judiciary committee with a recommendation to fail. That sounds a little confusing, but it means that the bill is still live, but it’s chance of making it to the House floor is very low.

It was clear that the committee had decided to table HR 536 long before this week. There’s a lot of blame shifting going on within the pro-life world about why this happened. Is it the Archdiocese fault? Is it Georgia Right to Life’s fault? I think that these are distracting issues. The bottom line is that the abortion industry in Atlanta has been running rampant since 1973, and that isn’t going to be undermined in 6 hours of committee testimony.

There are two main ways power is wielded, I think. First, it is wielded from the shadows, those who hold the power control and manipulate the people or civil government officials that we communicate with and elect. Second, sometimes a leader emerges who holds the hearts and minds of the people, and can effect sweeping change by leading the grassroots fervor.

Right now in Georgia our prolife leadership is a bit tangled and off track. GRTL and the Archdiocese are not in cohesive union the way they have been for years. But all of us little people are finding one another, getting educated and getting involved. This is the real triumph. An educated population in Georgia will bring deeper, lasting change. For so long we thought that abortion was being handled and was minimal in Georgia. The ugly truth of the thousands of children slaughtered in Atlanta, the abortionists who operate in violation to law, and civil authorities who sweep the entire thing under the rug is becoming known.

So where do we go from here? First, I would encourage you to inundate Wendell Willard’s office with courteous requests to give HB1 a hearing. His email address: .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) and his phone number 404-656-5125, and fax number: 404-657-8277.

Next we need to come together and develop a strategy for working together in the next couple of months. We are in an election year, and there are a lot of options available to us on how best to proceed in our efforts to abolish abortion this year.

Whatever you do, do not get bogged down or depressed. Obstacles merely assist in pointing out the right way. When Edison created the lightbulb, first he had to figure out 1,000 ways a light bulb was not built. All of these efforts are building blocks for the victory that is in Georgia’s future. Thank you for all your involvement. We are off to a good start. Stay posted for the time and place for the big planning meeting!

New Stanek WND column, “Divine secrets of the political yo-yo sisterhood”

WND%20logo.gif

It's interesting to watch pro-aborts fight. They confine themselves to a war of words when picking on someone their own size. No dismembering, no decapitating, how refreshing.

Right now they're engaged in a rarely seen public snarl over which Democrat presidential candidate to support. This will likely stop after they pick a nominee, so the pack can resume attacking the Republican.

Meanwhile, the rift is revealing....

The grumpy old feminists, who for half a century have been decrying sexism, are herding around Hillary because she's a woman, the epitome of chauvinism.

There are reports lesbians are also flocking to Hillary, but I've thought for some time grumpy old feminists and lesbians were one and the same. The president and vice president of NOW in my state are live-in lesbian lovers, for instance. So that may not be news.

On Obama's side we have....

Hearings in Atlanta to end abortion

Monday afternoon at 2pm in the Coverdale Legislative Building, room 406, the hearing began for HR 536 and HB1. Ed Lindsey, chairman of the House Judiciary sub-committee opened the meeting and welcomed anyone in the room to sign a clipboard sheet in order to be given an opportunity to say whatever they so desired in support or against the proposed legislation. At this point the committee members included Mike Jacobs (D), Barry Fleming (R),  Mary Margaret Oliver (D), and a couple legislative aids who were clearly filling in.

Ga. Rep. Martin Scott was given the floor first with his legal counsel, David Gibbs. Martin’s speech was reminiscent of the stump speeches I’ve heard around the state in defense of the Human Life Amendment. He pointed out that in most districts of Georgia, a politician must be pro-life to win. So clearly the life issue was important to the Georgia people. Then Martin introduced his legal counsel, and Ed Lindsey directed his questions to the lawyer. I was disappointed with David Gibbs. He did not seem to have a firm grasp of Georgia law, and his answers were rather vague.

Rich Golick Republican from Cobb County, a member of the House Judiciary, and supposedly staunch supporter of life, sauntered into the meeting 15 minutes late, checked his voice mail while on the platform during the testimony, and then strode out of the room without making eye contact with anyone a couple hours early. Certainly not the voice of support for HR 536 and HB1. Maybe today he’ll pretend to be more interested.

Following Martin and David’s turn at the plate, up came 4 lawyers from Georgia colleges and universities. They proceeded to tear apart HR 536 as the most worthless piece of legislation ever drafted, and the grand finale, it was a violation to a legislator’s oath of office to even consider passed HR 536. Due to questioning from Ed Lindsey, one lawyer was good enough to admit that he was very pro-abortion, and his wife is the chairman for Planned Parenthood Georgia.

Following the blood letting, Frank Mulcahey, legal counsel to Archbishop Gregory and the Archdiocese of Atlanta, stood and stated that the Archdiocese was against HR 536 for all the reasons already so eloquently stated by the 4 lawyer panel, and if anyone wanted to bring forward a good piece of legislation to undermine Roe v. Wade, he would be happy to support it. No one mentioned HB1.

Barry Fleming, member of the Judiciary Committee was good enough to ask if not HR 536 than what bill, which no one had an answer for. Shocking. Everyone knows the wrong way while simultaneously acknowledging they have no idea what the right way is. Does anyone see a problem here?

At 4pm a 5 minute recess was called and several members of the Judiciary left including Wendell Willard.

GRTL President Dan Becker rose to speak following the break with GRTL lobbyist Mike Griffin. He gave an impassioned speech on the relation of slavery and abortion, and pointed out all the current scientific advances that have reduced humans to inventory and property. Ed Lindsey asked Dan if he would support HB1 after hearing all the problems with HR 536. Dan evaded the question three times, and then Ed Lindsey, with a chuckle that was echoed by the room asked again, “Please answer the question yes or no, Will you support HB1?” Dan said, ” In so far as the legislation seeks to undermine Roe v. Wade in the same manner as HR 536, I do not foresee that we would have any problems offering it our support.”

Catherine Davis, lobbyist for HR 536, gave a rousing speech in defense of HR 536, followed by Alveda King who pointed out the agenda against the black community in regard to Atlanta’s abortion industry. Both speeches were declared to be very good. I unfortunately had to leave at 5 after 5 with my children, and missed these speeches. I was quite dissappointed.

Today the hearing part of HR 536 will be wrapped up, and HB1 given an opportunity to offer testimony. Same building, same room number, same time: CLOB, room 406, 2pm-5pm. Hope to see you there.
