McCotter Statement on Administration Decision to Support Embryonic Destructive Research
WASHINGTON – Representative Thaddeus McCotter (R-MI), Chairman of Republican House Policy Committee, today issued the following statement following President Obama signing an Executive Order that will allow federal funding for embryonic destructive research:
“This order which allows federal taxpayer dollars to pay for the destruction of living human embryos is deeply troubling because it denigrates the sanctity of human life. We should not divert from what is presently working, namely, the non-embryonic destructive stem cell research which currently provides over 70 unique and ethical treatments, and is an effective use of taxpayer dollars.”
In the past 46 days, the Administration has repealed the Mexico City Policy that prevents taxpayer dollars from being used to fund overseas abortions; blocked pro-life amendments from being included in the massive “omnibus” spending bill; is in the process of rescinding a federal rule that protects medical providers who decline to provide abortions for moral reasons and nominated pro-abortion Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius to serve as Secretary of Health and Human Services.
